The Magazine of Revue du Vin de France ( Magazine of the Wine of France), in the publishing 2009 of its Guide of the Cellarmen (Guide des Cavistes), chose four cellarmen not to miss
. And quote, for L'Avant-Goût Côté Cellier, The cellar of one of the best bistronomiques addresses of Bets. A tiny shop by the size, but great by its inspirations...
If there where a championship for the tiniest Parisian wine shop, this one would likely win the gold. Callit the thirsty little sister
of the bistro-like and delicious Avant-Goût, the restaurant across the street. Little sister is stacked ! Stacked full of wines, that is.
Trendy natural wines, but nothing too extreme, preferences goes to wines characteristics of their native soil and bearing the mark of exceptionnal winemakers like Thierry Michon (Fiefs vendéens), or Robert Plageoles (Gaillac), or tender young wines like those produced by Yannick Pelletier (Saint Chinian), and Anne-Sopphie Debavelaere (Rully).
There is not a single false note in this spirited score wich is necessarily well-honed, given the limit space. Despite the tight squeeze, a few of the shelves offer a selection of gourmet delights (oils, vinegars, gingerbread...)
Be sure to shake the little refrigerator for carryout delicacies cooked up by Christophe Beaufront, the fine chef and owner of the restaurant.
